Neverise hit crowdfund target in double-quick time

Derby hotshots raise £1,500 to fund debut single video shoot

Derbyshire five-piece Neverise have successfully crowd funded over £1,500 despite not releasing a note or playing a single live show.

The band, who rose from the ashes of the widely tipped Follow You Home, are due to release their eagerly anticipated debut single ‘Everything You’ve Done’ on 23 February and the fan-led cash injection will be used to shoot a video to support the release.

The campaign, posted on indiegogo.com on January 1, hit its £1,500 target in under two weeks, with perks such as handwritten lyric sheets, go for a Nandos with the band before a show and even write a line in a Neverise song to be recorded on the forthcoming EP, being snapped up by eager fans.

Explaining the thinking behind involving fans from day one, the band said: “We appreciate that we are a new band and most of you haven't even heard any music yet, all we can say is we really believe that Neverise is the one and we want to put in the hands of fans. We want to bring the whole band experience to you; we see our fans as part of the band. Why do we need middlemen to enable us to get music to you? We can get releases out much quicker by crowd funding directly with the people that make it all possible.”

Following the news that Follow You Home singer Kayley Busby was leaving the band last summer, the remaining members saw an opportunity to regroup, rethink and move their sound in a new direction. By chance they discovered their long-time friend, Jessica Matthews, who is already carving her own niche as a solo artist, had always had a hankering to be in a band.

But Neverise aren’t merely picking up where FYH left off. They’re starting again from scratch. The first single,’ Everything You’ve Done’, is a no nonsense statement of intent that packs a real punch. Their new sound sees Jess’ soulful vocal pick its way through a swirl of electronics, an infectious chant-along chorus, snarling hardcore edges and guitars that could build brick walls.

The band is planning further crowd funding campaigns and plan to release their five-track debut EP in May.

Will 2015 be the year of Neverise? You wouldn’t bet against it.
