Shake

‘Shake!’ hit another career high on Saturday 17th March when they opened Belfast’s official St Patrick’s Day concert to a 7000 strong crowd at the City’s Custom House Square. It was a fitting stage for a band who in the last six months have seen over 1000 more people sign up as fans online and for their mailing list, and who’ve seen the video to new single ‘My Time’, receive over 4000 Youtube views in the first two weeks following its release on 16th March.

Brooklyn’s nevereven begin to tighten the screws for the release of ‘The Progress of Disaster’

Brooklyn’s nevereven begin to tighten the screws for the release of their debut UK long-player, ‘The Progress of Disaster’, on 6 February 2012.

Nevereven aren’t your run of the mill metal outfit. One of the leading lights in New York’s up and coming street metal charge, nevereven sneak up on you like the kid brothers of Biffy Clyro and Foo Fighters looking for a dust up with Muse.

Despite their snarling full tilt fierce approach, they have a lightness of touch that appears to fly in the face of their snarling sound. Crisp and clean, nevereven serve up tunes by the bucketful and melody by the shovel load. No mean feat for a band who clearly go about everything they do at gale force.

nevereven are a band who soak up everything around them. A band who understand not only where they’re going, but where they come from. Open your ears and you’ll hear slivers of everything from ska sensibility to Queen, from classical overtones to Iron Maiden, from choral stylings to Def Leppard.

The album doesn’t disappoint. The double A-sided first single salvo of ‘Remainder’ and ‘Give’ lead the charge. ‘Remainder’ is a belter. Wound tight, it rattles out of the traps and doesn’t let up. You will already be very familiar with it, mainly because it caused all sorts of fuss thanks to the heavily rotated video, while its flipside ‘Give’ builds into a glorious shimmering, swirling anthem.

Then there’s the dark, soaring ‘Winterkill’ that will leave you fit to burst as it swells into one of the record’s standout tracks, there’s the mesmerising ‘Orpheus’ that whips around your ears like a whirlwind, while ‘The World of Tomorrow’ is sinister street stalker of a tune.

Be in no doubt, the unmistakable growl of nevereven will be filling your ears in 2012.

nevereven are Gary Pickard (vocals/guitar), Frank Pascali (guitar), Damian Peters (bass), Dave Previ (drums).
