‘Shake!’ hit another career high on Saturday 17th March when they opened Belfast’s official St Patrick’s Day concert to a 7000 strong crowd at the City’s Custom House Square. It was a fitting stage for a band who in the last six months have seen over 1000 more people sign up as fans online and for their mailing list, and who’ve seen the video to new single ‘My Time’, receive over 4000 Youtube views in the first two weeks following its release on 16th March.

Follow You Home release new EP

In these days of ‘there one minute gone the next’ pop, where moist-eyed teens are paraded on TV proclaiming that a Gary Barlow palace is what it’s all about, Derby’s Follow You Home are not just a breath of fresh air, they’re blowing a gale.

“X Factor,” sighs frontwoman Kayley Busby, “Spending nights on the road, gigging in grubby clubs, having to live on £1.20 a day… that’s how I see it. What people seem to think is the aim - big houses, the cars, all the trappings - that’s not our aim.”

Firmly in your sights then comes Follow You Home’s ‘Save Yourself’ EP, released on 7 November.

From the rip-roaring foot-down two and half minute romp of opener ‘Save Yourself’, to the menacing don’t-mess-with-me ‘Playing With Fire’ and on to the sparky Ska-tinged ‘Once Upon A Lie’ and the blistering ‘Eyes Wide Open’, the EP is as likely to turn heads as Kayley’s electric pink hair.

“It’s about being at the end of your tether,” says Kayley of the EP opener, ‘Save Yourself’. “It’s about feeling desperate, fed up, having no one and nowhere to turn. It’s about being at that point where you just want to give up and realising you can’t rely on other people to come and save you.”

The video for ‘Save Yourself’ was shot on location in a derelict house in the Derby area. Despite laying empty for 25 years, the band’s presence managed to attract the attention of irate farmers, a brace of police cars, a riot van and a police helicopter while filming.

The video gives more than a good idea of what to expect when Follow You Home take to the stage. With a tour lined up to support the EP, Follow You Home are quickly building something of a reputation as live band. Little surprise really.

“Our music is a mish-mash of everything we enjoy listening to… A Day To Remember, New Found Glory, Four Year Strong, The Distillers,” offers Kayley. “It’s whatever we’re drawn to, we don’t want to limit ourselves. We don’t want write a song and think, hang on, that doesn’t fit. Our songs aren’t empty headed. There’s so much music out there, we know we have to grab people’s attention and to do that it’s got to be something special.”

Special? They’ve got special coming out of their ears. The line “I hope you go up in smoke/I hope you fucking choke” from Once Upon A Lie really does make you sit up and pay attention, as does the preening ‘Playing With Fire’…

“It’s a proper don’t mess with me kind of song,” says Kayley. “It’s about dealing with men who are being a bit of knob. It’s quite arrogant, saying you’re taking the mick, playing with fire, because I’m the jackpot.”

Follow You Home’s  ‘Save Yourself’ EP is out on 7 November 2011.
